Baked Custard Recipe

Let me first say, that I do not particularly like Baked Custard.  But I had a lot of eggs and was in the mood to bake something so I paged through one of my favorite cookbooks.  You've probably never heard of it before, {Recipes from the Heart of the High Rock Church} it's not exactly sold on Amazon or Barnes & Noble, but let me tell you: It is amazing.

This Baked Custard turned out beautifully, it set up perfectly, had nice coloring, smelled delicious.
And tasted O.K. warm out of the oven, but after 12 hours in the refrigerator it tasted much better. Really good actually, and my babies loved it too.

The Recipe

6 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
4 cups milk, scalded
1 tsp vanilla
nutmeg
1/4 cup sugar

Wisk together eggs, sugar and salt.  Stir in scalded milk.  Pour into a baking dish.  Set in a pan of hot water.  Sprinkle a little nutmeg on top.  Bake at 325 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until set.  Sprinkle 1/4 cup of sugar all over the top and set under the broiler until brown {watch closely!!!}

Let me know what you think!!!
